Role of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee

The Aboriginal Advisory Committee (AAC) to the ITA was established in October 2008 to provide advice to the Senior Lead, Aboriginal Initiatives, to help articulate a vision for Aboriginal industry training across the Province of British Columbia.

Members

The AAC includes members from the Aboriginal community, industry, government, training providers and apprentices. For the list of current members, click here.

Goal of the AAC

  • Increase Aboriginal participation in industry training across BC

Cultural of Respect

  • The ACC is committed to recognition and protection of the inherent rights, cultures and traditions of Aboriginal people across BC.

Role of the AAC

To increase Aboriginal participation in industry training across BC, the AAC will:

  • Involve Aboriginal people (to the greatest extent possible) in all facets of the process of Aboriginal people entering industry training
  • Provide leadership and strategic guidance to ITA
  • Build relationships and liaise with community stakeholders as required
  • Recognize the interests and needs of Aboriginal people seeking entry into industry training
  • Lead the development of strategies to reduce/ eliminate barriers (industry training)
  • Identify mechanisms for implementing ITA strategies and programs in rural and urban Aboriginal communities
  • Identify and review industry training best practices in other jurisdictions
  • Provide feedback on Federal and Provincial labour market information and other industry training research studies
  • Provide input and feedback on new ITA programs and strategic initiatives
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of ITA strategies and initiatives (pre and post)
  • Other roles may be assigned
