Motorcycle Mechanic

Description

Motorcycle Mechanics test, maintain, service and repair engines on a variety of vehicles including motorcycles, scooters, forklifts, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and, in some cases, even lawn equipment, small marine engines and pumps. They work on mechanical and electrical system parts and components using hand tools and, increasingly, electronic diagnostic equipment. Motorcycle Mechanic is a nationally designated trade under the Inter-provincial Red Seal program.

After consulting with customers to determine the problems with the vehicle, Motorcycle Mechanics need to be able to read and interpret drawings, specifications and shop manuals. They must be able to explain to these customers what they've done and what other maintenance may be needed.

Motorcycle Mechanics are typically employed by motorcycle dealers but can also sometimes be found in electrical and other repair shops, appliance service companies and repair departments of retail and wholesale establishments.
