Meet Your Advisor: Dave Coleman
Apprenticeship Advisors provide regional support to apprentices and employer sponsors. They help build knowledge and awareness of the B.C. apprenticeship system and provide guidance to apprentices and sponsors on processes and policies related to the apprenticeship journey and challenger pathway.
Here's a Q&A with Dave Coleman, Apprenticeship Advisor for Prince George and the Central Interior.
What is your trades background/experience?
I completed an apprenticeship as a floor covering installer and worked in the industry as an installer, dispatcher, and store manager. I’ve also worked from time to time in the construction sector in a variety of trades.
How long have you been with ITA?
This time around, it has been a few weeks. I also worked for one year with ITA 13 years ago in the program standards area.
What do you enjoy most about working at ITA?
I’m most excited about working with apprentices and employers and assisting people to achieve their potential. I like working with people and seeing the difference that success brings into their lives.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I like to work with people in their work environment and making relationships. I also like the daily changes from one job site to another. Variety is the spice of life!
What would you like people to know about the trades?
The trades are an excellent way to provide a living for yourself and for your family. Trades provides a sense of satisfaction at the end of every day. You can measure your growth and production.
What advice would you give to people interested in becoming an apprentice?
Go for it! You bring your enthusiasm and desire, and your employer and our training providers will teach you the trade.
